TERMITE TREATMENT CASE STUDY IN KOTARA
Here is an example of the comprehensive termite treatment plan we did for a recent customer in Kotara, Newcastle.
This will give you an idea of what needs to be done to fully kill, remove and protect a house from termites.
Our technician carried out an inspection of the premises using using thermal imaging and moisture detection equipment, and active termites were discovered inside the wall cavity backing onto the en-suite bathroom. The rest of the house was then inspected carefully to discover if the termites had spread anywhere else inside the house. Luckily the termites had not been inside the house long and the nest was confined to a smaill vertical section of the wall between two upright beams.
On checking outside the house a termite mud trail was discovered entering the home so an external larger nest was obviously involved which must be exterminated as well. The larger nest was not located in the garden so was either located in a neighbours yard or nearby bush.
A TERMITE TREATMENT WAS THEREFORE NECESSARY IMMEDIATELY
We were very careful not to disturb the termite activity so we could use the termites themselves to carry chemicals to the larger external nest to kill it completely.
- Treat activity in the wall beams by applying TERMIDOR foam to the workings.
- Luckily our equipment could show us that the nest had not spread outside two vertical studs in the wall cavity.
- The treatment was then carried out to the external areas of the house by digging a trench to completely surrounding the house. For concrete areas we drilled a 12 mm hole every 300mm and inserting TERMIDOR Termite Chemical into the ground which then will form a barrier to the external part of the house.
- The house was built on a concrete slab so we made sure the house was completely surrounded by a barrier.
- After the treatment was complete the customer was informed that there will be a follow-up inspection to all areas treated with TERMIDOR dust. (It will be checked 7-10 days after initial treatment). Follow-up inspections are all included in the treatment price!
- An inspection is carried out on the entire property again after 28 days and if no activity is found then 6 months another inspection will be carried out.
- If everything is clear a yearly inspection is scheduled as part of the warranty given to the customer for the internal treatment.
We couldn’t resist opening up a small hole in the gyprock and filming the termites in action
Termite treatment is injected into the wall cavity. The injection holes are carefully covered to make sure the termites are not disturbed and will continue feeding in the one place rather than moving to another part of the house.
The chemical used will be carried by the termites outside the house to kill the main nest.
28 days later. The termite nest is completely dead and the gyprock can be removed and the termite workings removed.
Luckily the termites had not spread beyond the wall studs!!

Do You Have A Termite Problem?
Termites are by far one of the most destructive pests in Australian homes. If you have ever had a termite infestation you will know they are expensive to treat and can require expensive repairs to your home if they have built a nest in the walls.
ABOUT TERMITES
Termites, also known as white ants, require moisture from the soil to live and in spring and summer (usually around September/October) they start looking for wooden structures in which to eat, mate and create nests or colonies. They enter homes from the ground, preferring structures where the wood touches earth but they will find their way into any structure through crevices, pipes and even slabs and will climb foundations of homes. The main characteristics of a subterranean termite infestation are the mud tunnels they build to access your home. These tunnels are often found underneath houses and up house piers to reach the timber frame. These mud tubes also provide shelter from weather and predators like birds and ants.

What Can I Do to Help My Pest Technician Eradicate A Termite Problem?
It is very important not to disturb termites when you find them! With termites the whole nest must be treated or they may infest your property somewhere else. Do not disturb any mud trails or nests as the termites will be harder to treat and they may move into other areas and make the problem worse. As soon as you find termites give us a call for an inspection to assess your particular situation before touching anything.
Some things you can do around your property to reduce the likelihood of a termite infestation.
- Make sure there is no timber lying around your property, particularly under your house
- Continually monitor white ant activity around your property by checking the boundaries of your house slab or the piers your house sits on for any termite trails
- If you are worried whether you might have termites give us a call and we can give your property a thorough inspection and write a comprehensive report on where termites are where the greatest threats are.
- Tree Stumps – Tree stumps anywhere near your property are a particular concern and should be treated. We have a special Preventative Stump Treatment for Termites.
- If you think you may have a problem call in the pest control experts from Pest and Termite Exterminators. We can provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan that will keep termites away for good.
